When Do You Bowl A Flipper

Flippers are probably the most mysterious version of leg spin.I have already described in one of my articles how to bowl a flipper. But,how should you utilize this delivery? This article will tell you exactly how to use this variation properly yo get wickets.

Lets start with a match - the semifinal of 1996 World Cup.

The match was between Australia and West Indies. It was a clear win for WI,but the brilliant in form Shane Warne shattered the tail enders with his flipper and won the match for Australia.

I hope that you have already got the first hint about when to use the flipper-its mostly effective against tail enders. Why?

Any proficient batsman probably knows what a flipper is,and even if he doesn't know how to detect one,he can use his reflexes to atleast somehow defend the ball.If he doesn't get out,he will be more careful and hence, chances of getting him out with a flipper will be greatly reduced.

The situation is quite different for tail enders. They will probably get baffled by the delivery and will probably fall victim to LBW.Moreover,if you can bowl all the four versions of the flipper, just try to use each version after 2  to 3 deliveries.Mind it,this is for tail enders only.

Also, because flippers are of low bounce, you can put a flipper after a top spinner, which usually have much higher bounce.

Hope you enjoyed the article. You can also take a look at Different Forms Of Leg Spin Bowling
